Favorite {sewing} things

To start off my blog {again}, I would like to share some of my favorite sewing things. I am sharing 7 things that I have found helpful in my sewing adventures. I have been sewing for a very, very, very, very long time {each very might be a decade}. Things have really improved & gotten easier!
So here we go:

  1. My Husqvarna Viking Emerald 183 sewing machine. I love how easy it is to thread! I love the auto needle threader! I love the bunches of stitches it does! I love the buttonhole foot! I wouldn't mind if it cut the thread when I am done sewing, but that machine costs a whole bunch more & I am happy with the one I have.

  1. My Oliso Iron! Got it for myself for my 28th wedding anniversary! I have loads of back problems & not having to lift an iron up & down is a tremendous help to me! I got the Oliso Pro ~ it stays on for 30min before it shuts it's self-off for sewers. Click here to check out Jenny's review.

  1. Magnet pit holder with cover. I am forever knocking my box of pins on the floor! Now when that happens, the pins don't scatter all over the floor! And I love the cover, I can take my pins anywhere I need to & not lose any. I do need another one of these so I can keep one at the machine & one on my ironing board. {I marked it as mine with a flower sticker}

  1. Bobbin Holder. I have tried the little boxes ~ didn't work for me.

  1. Quick Turn ~ I have always known there had to be an easier way to turn a tube of fabric then what I had always done. I saw this at the fabric store, I had a coupon, so I got it, not knowing when I would use it. I used it that very same week when I was altering a prom dress! I couldn't have made a ¼ loop out of chiffon without it!

  1. Curved tipped scissors. I love the small curved blade, is so useful for snipping off the starter tail of the thread {with the blades curved away from the fabric ~ less chance of snipping the fabric}. They also can be used as a seam ripper if you are very careful. I tied a piece of twill tape to the hole so that I can hang them on a hook I put on the side of my Emerald. This way I always know where they are at {if I put them back!}. I have also added a small magnet to the side of my machine to keep the flat screwdriver that came with the Emerald. I also was forever losing it.

  1. My extra-large ironing board! I finally got my husband to make this for me for our 29th wedding anniversary {hey, we are so romantic}. I have been bugging {if he has an other word for that he is way to smart to use it!} for years for one of these! I had my wonderful husband covered it with a layer of 100% cotton batting, layer of 100% wool, batting, wool. I have a cotton bottom weight to put on, but so far I have been loving the wool. It makes ironing a breeze! And the size is just right! I have room to open up the fabric & have my iron sit on the end. The board has "rails" that fit the regular ironing board so it won't slip.

  1. My faithful critics Rosco & Daisy. Some days they let me sew, some days they just want me to play ball, some days I have to put Daisy on my table to keep her quite. They are never far from me what ever I am doing.

Some day I might add more, but for now…

Keeping busy

Now that I am home all the time, it is challenging to keep myself busy. I really just wanna take a nap on the couch after everyone is gone, eat something & take another nap. And do some crafting if I'm not too sleepy. But I really do feel guilty about taking so many naps while everyone else is working or at school.

My feet are still healing, so taking a walk or even going shopping can be tireing at times.

I am going to try to get a routine set where I am cleaning a room, doing laundy, something different each day.

I'm gonna start by cleaning the bathroom on Monday & Friday - that way we will start the week & the weekend with a clean bathroom :)

The weekend

1st up, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KELSEY! Wow, my sweet little girl turned 18 on Friday! I am still in shock! She is a very sweet & compassionate young woman & I can't wait to see all that God has in store for her!

What a weekend we had, I am glad it is over, now we just have to recover!

Friday night we participated in "Relay for Life" with our church. We spent the night with about 1000 other people at a high school football field for the American Cancer Society. Yes, the whole night, 6pm to 6am. It was a lot of fun & very touching during the luminaries ceremony. There was lots for you to do, lots of fun, raffles & stuff to buy. ( I might have to make some cards or crafts for next time). But being in a field of grass for 12 hours straight wasn't good for my allergies! I did sleep for about 1 1/2 hours. And when I woke up, Lionel had packed everything up & taken it to the car (what a sweetheart!).

So we got home about 6:30am & Kelsey had a soccer game at 10am. So we got a little bit of sleep & then her & I went to the park for her game. So then I spent an other 2 hours in a field of grass!

Needless to say my nose is still stuffy & red!

But the best part of the weekend was meeting LUCY JANE STROHSCHEIN! Our pastor & his wife welcomed their 1st child into the world on Thursday, October 16th. We stopped by their house on Sunday night. She is so sweet! Marty & Amanda are so elated, their joy is so cute!

Well, I guess this is enough for now, I have let the girls sleep a little longer this morning, but I am gonna attempt to get them up again.

Toodles,

Rue
